We\u2019re part marketer, negotiator, problem-solver, therapist, and sometimes even part-time detective. But there\u2019s one hat we should leave hanging on the wall: <strong>attorney.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we head into 2027, transactions continue to get more complicated, and clients will naturally have questions. \u201cWhat does this clause mean?\u201d \u201cCan we change this part of the contract?\u201d \u201cWhat should I do here?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can be tempting to jump in with an answer, especially when we want to be the agent who always has a solution. But sometimes the smartest answer is, <strong>\u201cThat\u2019s a great question for your attorney.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Knowing Your Lane Is a Superpower<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rules around the unauthorized practice of law vary from state to state, but the basic idea is pretty simple: REALTORS\u00ae can provide real estate expertise without stepping into the role of legal counsel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That means completing approved forms with factual information may be part of the job, while drafting legal language, substantially changing contracts, or interpreting legal rights and obligations can cross the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And honestly? Knowing when to stop is a sign of professionalism\u2014not a lack of knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When \u201cI\u2019m Not Sure\u201d Is the Right Answer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine a client asks you how they should change a contract to protect themselves. Instead of trying to solve the legal puzzle yourself, it\u2019s perfectly okay to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cI want to make sure you get the right advice. Let\u2019s have an attorney take a look at that.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019re still helping. You\u2019re protecting your client.
