Some of that slowdown could simply be seasonal. Winter weather across much of the country likely kept some buyers from house hunting. But that\u2019s probably only part of the story. Even though affordability has improved a little, buyers haven\u2019t rushed back into the market the way many experts expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One encouraging sign is that mortgage rates have eased compared to last year. When rates move closer to the 6% range instead of the 7% range, millions more households suddenly qualify for a mortgage. That opens the door for a lot of potential buyers who were previously priced out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, buyers don\u2019t usually jump in the moment rates drop. Historically, only a small portion of newly qualified buyers act right away. Many take time to watch the market, save more money, or wait for the right home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another big factor is supply. A lot of homeowners are still choosing to stay put rather than sell. Many locked in very low mortgage rates over the past few years and don\u2019t want to give them up. As a result, the number of homes for sale remains relatively limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If more buyers start returning while inventory stays tight, prices could climb again. That\u2019s why many housing experts say the long-term solution is simple: build more homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
