{"id":23717,"date":"2024-06-14T13:08:42","date_gmt":"2024-06-14T13:08:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.anthonydidonato.net\/wordpress\/?p=23717"},"modified":"2024-06-14T13:08:44","modified_gmt":"2024-06-14T13:08:44","slug":"average-size-of-mortgage-loan-hits-record-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.anthonydidonato.net\/wordpress\/average-size-of-mortgage-loan-hits-record-high\/","title":{"rendered":"Average Size of Mortgage Loan Hits Record High"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The average dollar amount of a mortgage purchase application hit a record of $418,500 as higher home prices force buyers to borrow more, the Mortgage Bankers Association reported this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe continued rise in purchase loan application sizes is driven by high home price appreciation and the lack of housing inventory on the market\u2014especially for entry-level homes,\u201d says Joel Kan, vice president of economic and industry forecasters for the MBA. \u201cThe slower growth in government purchase activity [like in VA or FHA loans] is also contributing to the larger loan balances and suggests that prospective first-time buyers are struggling to find homes to buy in their price range.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Home prices have been rising rapidly over the past year by double-digit percentages. The median existing-home price for all housing types in December was $358,000, up 15.8% compared to a year earlier ($309,200). Last month, every major region of the U.S. posted price gains, led by the South (up 20% compared to a year ago), according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/magazine\/real-estate-news\/existing-home-sales-reach-highest-point-since-2006\">National Association of REALTORS\u00ae\u2019 latest home sales report<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Down payments have also gotten larger.
