Home building materials have climbed by up to 19% over the past year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Producer Price Index.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The building materials that have seen the largest increases so far in 2021, according to the National Association of Home Builders\u2019 Eye on Housing blog, include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Steel mill products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building paper and building board mill products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Asphalt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plastic water pipe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fertilizer materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Laminated veneer lumber<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thermoplastic resins and plastics materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Structural metal joists and concrete reinforcing bars<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wood window and door frames<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copper pipe and tube<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.nar.realtor\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_paragraph_image\/public\/assets\/images\/9.10.2021_buildingmaterials.png?itok=GYgP5k9j\" alt=\"Chart, largest price increases of building materials\" title=\"9.10.2021_buildingmaterials.png\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The price change in steel mill products has been most notable, climbing 81% year over year. That follows an 11% increase in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The median sales price of a new home in July was $390,500, an 18.4% increase compared to a year earlier, according to the Commerce Department.
