Median home list prices have been hitting a record pace\u2014topping a $300,000 average in the United States, according to realtor.com\u00ae data. The rise in mortgage prices has come with a higher median cost for home loans, which is up nearly 20% to $229,000, over the past five years.<\/p>\n

Wage growth hasn\u2019t kept the pace with higher housing costs. Household incomes have only risen 10% in comparison.<\/p>\n

However, realtor.com\u00ae researchers were still able to find several U.S. markets where around half of borrowers are getting mortgages with payments under $1,000 a month or less on a 30-year fixed-rate loan.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, the Rust Belt area and parts of the South are where home buyers will get the biggest bang for their buck,\u201d says Todd Teta, chief product officer at ATTOM Data Solutions.<\/p>\n

Realtor.com\u00ae\u2019s rankings showed these markets offer some of the best chances of scoring some of the lowest monthly mortgage payments:<\/p>\n
