\u201cA great customer experience is one where customers feel good, even look good,\u201d writes Forbes columnist Micah Solomon, a customer experience coach, trainer, and author. In the end, they\u2019ll feel good about you then too.<\/p>\n

Yet, too often sales professionals are so concerned with making sure they look smart to their customers that it comes at the price of making their customers feeling stupid.<\/p>\n

Solomon highlights five things you\u2019ll want to avoid in your talks with clients to make sure you aren\u2019t hurting their self-esteem:<\/p>\n

1. When a customer is wrong, try to avoid \u201cschooling them\u201d on the error.<\/strong> Instead, try to make the mistake seem like one that could have happened to anyone.<\/p>\n

2. Avoid jargon that could be confusing to your customer. <\/strong>Translate your thoughts into language that the customer can easily understand.<\/p>\n

3. Don\u2019t go on and on \u2026 and on.<\/strong> Be respectful and value your customers\u2019 time. Don\u2019t drag out conversations in a way that seems disrespectful and make them feel like you think their time is less valuable than yours, Solomon writes.<\/p>\n

4. Don\u2019t let them feel like an interruption. <\/strong>Hold off on taking phone calls or responding to messages from other clients when you\u2019re with someone else. Avoid making customers feel like they\u2019re an interruption of your work, rather than central to it.<\/p>\n

5. Don\u2019t assume they know the process.<\/strong> Make sure you explain to them the process of home buying or selling in easy-to-use terms and steps so they know what\u2019s coming next. \u201cFeeling lost and frustrated by a counterintuitive customer experience doesn\u2019t make anyone feel good about themselves,\u201d Solomon notes.<\/p>\n
