Why Trust Is a Big Deal in Real Estate Right Now

If you’ve been in real estate for any amount of time, you already know this: trust has been a hot topic lately, especially when it comes to the national association. A lot of agents are frustrated, confused, or just tired of feeling out of the loop. And honestly, that frustration makes sense.

Leadership is aware that trust has taken a hit, and they’ve finally started saying it out loud. The message is basically this: things haven’t gone great, and rebuilding trust is going to take real work — not just speeches or promises.

To try to fix things, they’ve rolled out a new three-year plan starting in 2025. The idea behind it is pretty simple: make membership actually feel worth it again. Not just “in theory,” but in ways that help you in your business every day — whether that’s better resources, clearer rules, or smarter decisions being made behind the scenes.

One thing that stood out is how leadership wants to run things going forward. Instead of setting a plan and letting it collect dust, they’re saying they’ll check in every quarter. That means looking at what’s working, what isn’t, and what needs to change. Think of it like tracking numbers in your own business — if something isn’t producing, you adjust.

They’re also focusing on a few key areas that matter directly to agents.

First is money transparency. Agents want to know where their dues are going. Period. The goal is to make budgets easier to understand, without needing a finance degree or a deep dive into long reports.

Second is making better decisions when it comes to rules and legal issues. We’ve all felt the impact when poor decisions trickle down to agents on the ground. Leadership says they’re being more careful now, thinking through the long-term consequences instead of reacting in the moment.

Third is using real data to make decisions, not guesses or “this is how we’ve always done it.” Better data should mean better tools, better advocacy, and fewer surprises for agents trying to run a business.

Here’s the reality though — trust doesn’t come back just because someone says the right thing. Agents need to see action. We need consistency, clear communication, and proof that leadership is actually listening to what’s happening in the field.

This isn’t about fixing everything overnight. It’s about showing steady progress and backing up promises with results. If leadership follows through and keeps agents in the loop, trust has a chance to rebuild. If not, the frustration will stick around.

At the end of the day, agents just want to feel supported, respected, and heard. If those boxes start getting checked, trust will follow.
