National League of Cities Expands Housing Initiative With New Partners

As housing supply shows signs of improvement across much of the U.S., the National League of Cities (NLC) is stepping up efforts to keep the momentum going. Their initiative, America’s Housing Comeback, is gaining traction—and new partners.

On August 6, the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) announced it is teaming up with the American Planning Association (APA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) to support NLC’s growing campaign.

America’s Housing Comeback is designed to fast-track progress on local housing supply issues by leveraging strategies from the Housing Supply Accelerator Playbook. The initiative emphasizes collaboration, scalable solutions, and a systems-based approach to tackling housing challenges.

One key goal: spotlighting effective state and local policies at the federal level while also encouraging public-private partnerships to increase housing availability.

“Housing attainability is a top priority for cities of all sizes,” said Clarence E. Anthony, CEO and executive director of NLC. “But solving the issue also requires investments in public infrastructure, workforce development, and safety systems that protect our housing stock. Local leaders are ready to strengthen the partnerships necessary to move forward.”

For NAR, joining this initiative is one more way to champion housing affordability and supply at every level of government. The association continues to advocate for zoning reform, streamlined permitting, and increased public awareness of policies that impact affordability.

“A hallmark of NAR’s advocacy is bringing trusted research and policy expertise to the table at the local, state, and federal levels,” said Shannon McGahn, NAR’s Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy Officer. “This partnership with NLC, APA, and NAHB will strengthen our collective efforts to expand housing supply and keep homeownership within reach. We’re proud to be part of America’s Housing Comeback.”
