As such, home buyers may need to lower their budgets to keep pace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>House hunters would be smart to search for a home that is about $40,000 cheaper than they would have a year ago as a result of the rising costs, Gay Cororaton, research economist at the National Association of REALTORS\u00ae, writes on the association\u2019s blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe increased cost of spending on other items impacts the ability of the average consumer to have enough leftover income to purchase a home,\u201d Cororaton writes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.nar.realtor\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/inline_paragraph_image\/public\/assets\/images\/4.14.2022_inflation.png?itok=ogdKBJGn\" alt=\"A bar chart comparing the additional spending per month due to inflation from 2021 to 2022.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Rising inflation, higher mortgage rates, and a tighter supply of housing available for sale are expected to soften housing demand this year.
